Dragon Age Origins

EA has paid attention to the complaints of its customers and finally produced a video game that doesn’t have any annoying DRM schemes. That means that Dragon Age: Origins really is an excellent offer from this company that has not always been entirely gamer-friendly. With any luck this is just the first of many EA offerings with similar features. The game is really fun to play because the controls are intuitive and the lands are entertaining to explore. Anyone who really enjoys a good cRPG game will find that Dragon Age: Origins delivers in a way that few games have been able to recently.

It’s interesting to sort through the dozen or so race, gender, background, and class combinations to create an individual character. When you equip your character with a set of armor and weapons it will show up on the character on the screen, which is a nice touch. The graphics are incredibly lifelike – their rendering of fire must be seen to be believed. The game itself is the best part of the package. You really have to use strategy to puzzle your way through the battles. The game does give you the option to reallocate your enemies so they are facing the most appropriate member of your party. If you don’t want to take the time to reallocate during battles there is an automated setting that will do it for you. When it’s set to automatic, the game feels more like an adventure hack and slash than a traditional role playing game.

The duration of this game reminds me of the old classic RPGs I used to play. I’ve been playing it for more than 20 hours and there is still a ton of stuff to do and explore. You’ll really feel you got your money’s worth with this game. The only thing I think they got wrong on Dragon Age: Origins is that the dialogue between characters has been reduced to just a line or two of text. I like when the characters really move the story along through dialogue instead of just throwing out useless one-liners. Good dialogue really helps to make your characters three-dimensional and can enhance the game quite a lot.

That said, Dragon Age: Origins is a complete package. The graphics are beautiful and realistic, which makes the game as much fun to watch as it is to play. You really get pulled into the storyline through the wonderful animations and soundtrack. The gameplay is very intuitive, and it gives you different options for playing the way you like. I would highly recommend this game to anyone who likes a good companion quest.

When I heard the stupendous reviews of Dragon Age I was skeptical. Now that I’ve played it, though, I have to say they were accurate. This game is really fun to play. The animation is so good that it feels more like a feature film than a video game, which totally draws the player in. There are subtle elements that make the game even more enjoyable, such as the acting of the people reading the dialogue. The script itself is more grownup and complex than most video games I’ve played.

The controls are very accurate and subtle as well. You don’t have to struggle to figure out how to use them, and they react to small changes in a very satisfying way. The entire combination makes for an incredibly enjoyable gaming experience. You’ll shudder when you’re attacked by a giant spider, then you’ll have to wince at the way your character struggles helplessly to escape. The complexity of the character customization means that you can make an almost infinite number of different characters to play with and against. This game is a triumph of the designers and will be appreciated by anyone who loves role playing games.
